[PHOTOSTORY 1: OUTDOORS] A Day on The Farm

 By: Vanessa Ramirez

Marcus Garcia uses the hose to clean off the water bucket consistently throughout the day. Garcia lives on a small farm with his family.

Garcia uses the hose to fill up the water bucket. He does this consistently throughout the door because the animals need a lot of water.

One of the roosters comes to the water bucket in search of water. There is a lot of water buckets scattered around the area for the animals to drink.

One of the other roosters walk over to join him. The roosters are attached to each other because they came came from the same batch.

Garcia opens the bag of mealworms to feed the chickens with his friend. Garcia grew up with his friend because their family are friends.

Garcia feeds the chicken mealworms. "I usually like to feed them the worms from time to time as a treat." Garcia said.

Garcia closes the bag while his dog, Cece, observes the chicken. "I always take Cece with me when I go to check on the chickens. She's a good dog," Garcia said.

The hen stares at her baby when the baby gets in the way of her eating. Garcia's family likes to check on the chicken coop throughout the day to make sure the food is always stocked.

The hen's baby is trying to eat from its mother mouth as the hen is eating. The baby is attached to its mother as it always follows her everywhere.

The chicken eats the worms thrown on the ground for them. The Garcia family never run out of worms because they know it's their favorite treat.

Sydney Jaudon stares down a rooster. Jaudon volunteers at the farm - it started when her family starting buying eggs from the Garcia family. She wanted to help out because she always wanted to do farm work due to her love for animals.

Jaudon stares down the white rooster as she realizes his left eye is missing. Garcia told her shortly after that he lost it in a fight when one of the other roosters pecked it out.

Jaudon holds out her hand full of mealworms to feed the chicken. She said she likes to do this to create a bond with them.

Jaudon calls over to the rooster in attempt to come closer to her. She likes to try to create a bond with the roosters because they generally are harder to get close to.

Jaudon laughs after the rooster crowed at her in response. Shortly after, Jaudon crows back at the rooster in attempt to get him to do it again.

Jaudon laughs at the chickens huddling together to eat the worms. "I really always enjoy watching the chickens because they're so funny with what they do."

The rooster is staring down another rooster to make sure that it doesn't get closer to the hen and her chicks. This particular rooster became the protector of the hens after their babies hatched.

Garcia grabs one of the eggs laid by the chickens. His family enjoy the eggs for their household, but also sell the eggs to their community.

Garcia hoses down their deck to clean it from the chicken poop. Garcia likes to let the chickens free roam, but there is a lot of mess that comes with it.

The chickens eat the insects found around. The Garcia family is looking to expand their farm by getting more animals such as goats, pigs, and a horse.
