[PHOTOSTORY 1: OUTDOORS] An Evening at M.C. Anderson Park

 By: Mackenzie Stewart

The Fitness Trail at M.C. Anderson Park on the Georgia Southern Statesboro campus is a prime location for outdoor activities. With some students still in Statesboro, it is a great location for some afternoon exercise.

Kody Pierce (L), a mechanical engineering major, Harrison Jordan (M), a philosophy major and Rhett Dow (R), a senior information technology major, spend their evening practicing their soccer skills and tossing the football around. This is the last time the group will see each other before going their separate ways for summer internships.

Rhett Dow, a senior information technology student attending Georgia Southern, holds an under-inflated soccer ball during a game of pickup soccer. “We decided to come over here last minute and were obviously underprepared with all the right equipment.”

Kody Pierce, a rising senior mechanical engineering major, dribbles the ball across the field to his friends. “I haven’t picked up a soccer ball in about 10 years, so don’t judge my terrible skills.”

Although he hasn’t played soccer in a very long time, Kody Pierce, senior mechanical engineering major, he still knows how to kick with precision. “It’s all about setting up a good shot and you can make it look like you know what you’re doing.”

Harrison Jordan, senior philosophy major, successfully juggles the soccer ball they are using, despite the lack of air. Jordan is the only one in the group who has consistently played soccer during his lifetime.

Harrison Jordan, senior philosophy major, waits for his pass to be returned from his teammate. “These guys remind me how important it is to continue to practice so I don’t lose all of my skills.”

Kody Pierce, senior mechanical engineering major, decides to take a break from passing the ball to his teammates. “I’m reminded every time that I play soccer with the guys why I stopped playing in middle school.”

Rhett Dow, senior information technology major, stretches before he and his friends toss around the football. “If I don’t stretch now, I’ll be feeling it tomorrow.”

Rhett Dow, senior information technology major, gets ready to toss the football to his other teammates. “We love coming out here when we can, I’m definitely going to miss this over the summer.”

Rhett Dow, senior information technology major, waits for his teammates to give him the go ahead to pass the ball. “Watch this, I bet they both miss this catch.”

Harrison Jordan, philosophy major at Georgia Southern, catches the pass from his teammate. “I’ve still got it!”

Kody Pierce, senior mechanical engineering major, gets ready to throw the ball to his teammates. “Like I said earlier, if you set up a good pass, it’ll look like you know what you’re doing.”

Harrison Jordan (L) and Rhett Dow (R) wait for their other teammate to pass them the ball. Jordan will be interning with a law office this summer while Dow will be working remotely as a tech support specialist.

Rhett Dow (L), Kody Pierce (M) and Harrison Jordan (L) share a laugh on the ball field. This group of young men have known each other since they were in high school.

Kody Pierce, mechanical engineering major, takes a break to tie his shoes. “The last thing I want is to be caught tripping on camera.”

Harrison Jordan (L), Rhett Dow (M) and Kody Pierce (R) huddle together before heading home. “I’m glad we could all get together before the real adulting starts this summer,” said Jordan.
