[PHOTOSTORY 1: OUTDOORS] Brookwood Elementary Field Day

 By: Aidan Stacy

To kick-start Brookwood Elementary's Fifth Grade day, each class had students participate in relays. The first relay was the "football run" as shown by Ethan Gomez taking the lead.

Here are some of the 5th grade girls participating in the football run. In the light purple shirt is Ashleigh Jackson.

Following the football run is one of the most competitive relays. Here are students lining up for the 50 yard sprint.

Another fun relay is the hoppity-hop race. Here is Rogan Jones smiling during his turn.

Hoppity-hops can be a little difficult to manoeuvre. Here is a student falling off during his turn.

Amidst the relays, another field day tradition is signing other classmates' tee shirts. Here is Mrs. Hernandez signing one of her students shirts.

Another fun relay is the tire pull. Here is Ezekiel Maranda leading his class.

Some classes come outside to cheer on the older grades. Here are a few kindergartners who were making flower bracelets instead.

After each student has run their leg of the race they squat down to show they are finished. Here is a student watching the rest of his team compete.

A challenging relay can be the hurdles. Here, a girl can be seen looking back as one of the hurdles is knocked over.

Here are two girls watching the 5th graders run their relays. They are seated on the sidelines of the relay lanes.

Field day includes more than just the student's relays. Here is Nurse April and her daughter helping sell concessions.

This is the 5th graders last field day as Brookwood Elementary students. Jackson Nix says, "I'll definitely miss it, but I just want to have fun today."

Here is a student in the bean bag race. Mikey Lopez says that this is his favorite relay.

One of the relays is to run backwards carrying a football. As seen in the photo, that is difficult for some students.

Another relay is the ice cream cone run where students have to balance a ball on top of a cone. Here is a class lined up to start.

Tug of War is the most competitive event that is the traditional end of field day. Here is a 5th grade class getting into position to pull the other team.

If some of the classes had more students than others, then some other students could be pulled to help. Here are some of Ms. Vasquez's students helping Mrs. Stacy's class.

Field day is not just competitive for the students. Here is Mrs. Stacy cheering on her class.

Here is the same class after winning Tug of War. Their teacher, Mrs. Stacy is cheering with them after their win.
