[PHOTOSTORY 1: OUTDOORS] Meet the horses!

 By: Zoey Pittman

Hi! I am Jaxon Del Ray, but my friends call me Jaxon. I am originally from the Netherlands and moved to barn in Pembroke, Ga that I have called home for two years now. Oh, you should also know that it is my birthday!

This is my grouchy uncle, Sir William, who I share a pasture with. He is one of the first horses that came to the barn.

Uncle Sir William has had a very successful riding career. After he competed at the Grand Prix level, he retired at the age of 22.

Sir William is not a fan of the bugs here. I will say, the bugs were a big adjustment coming from the Netherlands.

Living in a pasture with Uncle Sir William means I have to give him daily back scratches. I do not mind it because I also get back scratches.

In the pasture, we share a big round bale. I was picky about the hay at first, but Georgia Costal hay has grown on me.

Since I do turn 5 years-old today, my owner got me a brand new round bale! She did say I have to share my present with my uncle though.

I do not like sharing a round bale with Uncle Sir William because he always tries to bite me. He also sneezes in it and make the hay dust fly everywhere.

Sir William is such a messy eater, his forelock stays braided to keep the hay out. Maybe if he did not bury his head in the whole bale he would not have this problem.

If you are wondering why I live in a pasture with Sir William, it is because when I first arrived, I was a naughty pony. My owner thought I could use some discipline and guidance living with him.

I have learned a lot from living with him. For example, I have figured out how to grab big mouthfuls of hay in order to eat the most hay.

I sometimes wonder if I have actually become faster at eating hay than Sir William, or if he purposely just eats slower than me to make me believe I am the faster eater. Either way, I am getting more hay than him.

There are a lot of weird noises at this barn. I heard a cat scream and was contemplating on if I needed to bolt or not.

This is my Uncle Hagrid. His hair is always frizzy, and he gets to wear a fly mask because he is the favorite horse on the farm.

Hagrid’s favorite thing to do is eat food. He loves food so much that his owner bought him a slow feeder to hold his hay.

Hagrid is a draft/Frisian cross breed, which makes him an excellent dressage horse. He is also the biggest horse on the farm.

Meet Beau! Beau was one of the first horses to welcome me to the farm. He is easy going and a big dummy.

Beau is the nicer of the two horses. However, he is sometimes favored the least because he breaks the fence almost daily.

But, Beau loves to get up close and personal. He never fails to put a smile on your face.

That’s all the horses folks! Hope you enjoyed meeting everyone! Now excuse me as I continue indulging in my birthday hay.
