[PHOTOSTORY 2: MOTION] A neighborhood basketball game

Copper Beech Townhomes has a basketball court available for residents. You can retrieve a basketball from the clubhouse or bring your own.

 Darrius Simms (front) and Nick Mercer (back) stop by for a quick game of basketball. “We usually play together whenever we get off of work,” Darrius said.

 Nick shoots the ball. “That one might be off,” Nick said.

  It is now Darrius’ turn to shoot. Nick is trash-talking.

Darrius shoots the ball. “I think the wind is messing with our shots a little,” Nick said.

 Nick prepares to make a shot. Nick is now the lead.

 Darrius shoots the ball. Nick waits to see if Darrius will make it or not.

   A closer look at Nick as he waits for the ball to go in. “Looks like it’s my ball now,” Nick laughs.

 Nick goes in for a layup. Darrius said that was “too easy.”

Darrius tries to make a shot. He hasn’t scored in a while.

  Nick goes in for a 3-point shot. “I would redo high school all over again just so I could play basketball,” Nick said.

Darrius shoots the ball at the free-throw line. The shot was good.

The players are trash-talking with each other playfully. They’ve been friends for over a decade.

   Nick tosses Darrius the ball. He is going to make a three-point shot.

 Nick is cheering on Darrius. “Congratulations man, you made it,” he said sarcastically.

 Darrius laughs at Nick’s comment. “Don’t make me embarrass you on this court right now,” he said.

 Darrius watches Nick’s missed shot. The score is now tied.

    Darrius takes the ball from Nick. The game is almost over.

    Darrius shoots the ball from the free-throw line. The loser of the game has to give the winner $20.


    Darrius smiles as he makes his winning shot. “Let me know when you’re ready for my Cash app,” he laughs.
