[PHOTOSTORY 4: STRUGGLE] THE STRUGGLE OF BEING A STUDENT-ATHLETE

 By: Ainsley Clifford

Chamblee Russell, a senior at Georgia Southern University, does her homework assignments before practice. Russell is on the Georgia Southern Volleyball team.

This is the backpack Chamblee Russell got from the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which she now uses as her school backpack. Russell is a business administration major.

Chamblee Russell attempts to complete her homework before leaving on her 10 day trip to Argentina with her team. She must get a head start because she won't have much time to complete her work over there.

Chamblee Russell writes out her assignments for the week. Being a student-athlete can be very challenging, while trying to maintain good grades while training over 20 hours a week.

Chamblee Russell massages her shoulder in between homework assignments. Russell has had shoulder issues recently, so keeping her shoulder nice and loose will help it to be less painful during practice.

Chamblee Russell massages her neck and upper back in between homework assignments. Being a student-athlete can be very strenuous on the body, so taking care of yourself is extremely important.

Chamblee Russell massages her thigh in between homework assignments. Athletes tend to cramp up very easily due to dehydration and muscle overuse.

Chamblee Russell folds her clothes as she prepares to pack for her trip to Argentina. Russell is struggling to finish everything on her to-do list before leaving for Argentina.

Chamblee Russell vacuums her room with her Dyson vacuum. Russell wants her room to be nice and clean when she comes back from Argentina.

Chamblee Russell walks her dog, Hank, after finishing cleaning her room. Being a dog-mom also adds to the stress of a student-athlete.

Hank gets a treat from his mom after going to the bathroom. Hank is a two-year-old lab/pitbull mix.

Chamblee Russell goes to her car to get her water bottle out that she left from practice. Hydration is key in a student-athletes life.

Chamblee Russell opens the dishwasher. Russell likes for the house to be nice and clean.

Chamblee Russell unloads the dishwasher. "Living with 4 girls, this thing fills up pretty fast," said Russell.

Chamblee Russell ends the night massaging her body again. This is very important after a long day of training.
