For many swimmers, the sport of swimming stretches beyond a hobby and quickly becomes a lifestyle. "I have been a competitive swimmer for 9 years," said Gaines. Her favorite event to race is the 200 IM, which stands for Individual Medley, where swimmers race all four strokes within one race. As she reflects on her time as a competitive swimmer at SwimAtlanta, the largest club in Metro Atlanta, it's the intangibles she values most. "The friendships I've made and everything I've learned from being an athlete has stuck with me the most," said Gaines. "The support [of] the team and obviously my coach has made the biggest impact on me at SwimAtlanta."
