[PHOTO STORY 3: A DAY IN THE LIFE] Working at Walmart

Come spend a day at work with me. I work at the service desk at Walmart.

This is where all the magic happens. On this system, I do returns, and money services.

This is the lottery machine. People can purchase lottery tickets from anywhere and come to the service desk to cash them, but we only accept up to $600.

This is a machine that prints out labels to send packages back. We only use this for marketplace items purchased online.

Here's the receipt paper that everyone uses. You just rip it, open the machine, and put a new roll inside.

These bins are for returned items that can go back on the shelf. Items that customers have left and did not want can also be placed in these bins.

Each bin is sorted separately. For example this is apparel, someone from this department comes and picks it up.

Some departments don't come to pick up their returns. So it's either pushed back to the exact department, or I put the items back myself.

This is a return that a customer made with a claims slip on it. A claims slip is used when the product cannot go back on the shelf due to many different reasons.

This is a claims bin that gets pushed to the back and processed once full. Food claims are separate from regular item claims.

While I'm at the service desk, I try to answer the phone as much as possible. Most people call to check on an application or ask questions.

These are some boxes that get put out in the front. They can range from candy to as seen on tv type items.

Here's an aisle after being stocked fully. Also has been zoned which means making things neater.

This is the clipboard with everyone who is at work. Breaks and lunches are recorded here.

Here was a spill. I didn't have any paper towels at the moment, so I put a caution sign down.

This is the crafts aisle after I zoned it. It gets really messy throughout the day.

This is an OGP worker. Online grocery pickup is probably the easiest job at walmart, all you do is shop for customers.

That's where the service desk is at Walmart. Thanks for spending a shift with me!
