[Photostory 4: Struggle] Dealing With Loss

Maxwell Goldstein standing in his kitchen on Sunday June 16, 2025. Goldstein has been dealing with the grief of the unexpected passing of his uncle about 2 weeks ago. 


This photo shows Goldstein's uncle Richard Kosmacher. Kosmacher sadly passed away due to a car accident on May 31, 2025.

Goldstein is pictured here viewing the slideshow from Richard Kosmacher's shiva is a dimly lit room. Goldstein stated that "The entire family is devastated, it really happened out of nowhere, he was always healthy and liked to bike and run"


Maxwell Goldstein is pictured here standing on his balcony. "It has been a rough couple of weeks, its easier for me when I can find ways to distract myself" stated Goldstein.


Maxwell Goldstein is pictured here writing down his thoughts in a journal. "I recently took up journaling, my therapist said it's a good way to deal with the thought i'm having."


This photo shows Maxwell Goldstein reading a book in a dimly lit room. Goldstein stated that "Really anything I can do to keep my mind occupied has helped me get through my days these past weeks."

Maxwell Goldstein is pictured here practicing his bass guitar skills. Maxwell plays in a band with some of his friends from college.


This photo shows a wristband that Maxwell Goldstein has been wearing since his uncle's unfortunate passing. Goldstein's uncle was an organ donor and Giftofhope.org is a nonprofit organization that coordinates the donation of organs and tissue in United States.

This photo shows a game worn Joe Namath jersey that was gifted to Maxwell Goldstein. Goldstein's uncle was a sports collector, and some pieces from his collection were gifted to Goldstein and his brother. 

This photo shows a signed John Smoltz jersey that was also gifted to Goldstein from his uncles collection. Goldstein stated that "I really miss my uncle so I'm glad we have stuff to remember him by like his jerseys and cards."

Another gift from Goldstein's recently departed uncle is pictured here. This signed Joe Montana jersey was a prized piece in Kosmacher's collection.

This photo shows various items that were moved out of Goldstein's uncle's home. "We drove up to help move some things out of my uncles townhouse the other day, it was a pretty rough day but no other family lives in state so we took care of it."


Goldstein is pictured here working out in his basement gym. "My therapist also told me that exercise is a great way to work through bad feelings" stated Goldstein. 

This photo shows Maxwell Goldstein using the overhead cable machine in his basement. Goldstein has a weekly workout routine, but recently he has been exercising more often than usual.

Maxwell Goldstein is pictured here using the elliptical in his basement gym. This is another step in his daily workout routine.


After finishing his workout, Goldstein is pictured here taking a walk to clear his head and get some fresh air. "I like to take these walks after working out. It helps me get clear my mind up and also helps get the lactic acid out of you muscles after lifting." 


After finishing his walk Goldstein is pictured here filling up his new dog Jet's water bowl. Jet was Goldstein's uncle's dog, but now that he has sadly passed, Goldstein and his parents will look after Jet.


In this photo, Goldstein is pictured playing some video games on his playstation. This is another activity that Goldstein is using to keep his mind occupied.


Before going to bed, Goldstein is pictured here flipping through TV channels in the dark. Goldstein stated that "I love baseball and the College World Series is on, but It's hard to enjoy it knowing it's the kind of thing I would always watch with my mom and uncle."
