{ PHOTOSTORY 4: STRUGGLE}

 By: Laila Espinosa Moore

Beneath bright skies and bold letters, Sid’s Laundromat stands as a daily stop for many in Savannah.

The signs offer 24-hour access, free Wi-Fi, and discount days—but convenience doesn't cancel out struggle.

Front Desk Attendant assist in fixing washing machine by hand for customer use.

A customer loads laundry into a machine as finished shirts hang neatly nearby.

The laundromat provides a vending machine with basic supplies like soap and softener, each costing one dollar. For customers who arrive unprepared or low on cash, this machine can make a difference.

Rows of machines fill the room, each one in constant use throughout the day. Televisions play in the background, offering distraction during the repetitive routines.

Used detergent bottles, wrappers, and crumpled paper fill the bin after a long day of washing. Even basic laundry supplies can add up quickly for customers who visit multiple times a week because they do not have a washer and dryer at home.

The cart is empty, but the wait is heavy. A mother watches her child entertain himself between machines.

A rack of pressed shirts waits at the door. Even the finished work still needs to be picked up and carried out.
