[PHOTOSTORY 4: WORK SHIFT] Lowe's Garden Center

 BY: Emma Price

Lowes Garden Center is where you can find flowers, trees, tools, soil, and more.

The Statesboro location is the 31st-highest-grossing Lowe's in the world.

One of the departments is called outside, lawn, and garden.

They take care of rearranging products and filling customers' cars.

Issac Baker, an associate,  is bringing out fencing kits to a woman's car.

People use them for backyard fence layouts.

Issac helps her load each kit into her car, making sure they fit.

"I love helping customers; it brings enjoyment to the job," said Issac Baker.

Lowes offers a variety of trees, and they have 4,000 plants shipped in a week.

Matt Westal, an associate, takes a load out to the section to set out on display for customers.

A customer is interested in fence panels.

Issac showed them where they were located and talked about how they can be used.

Issac, let the customer ask questions so they find what they were looking for.

"Here is one of our fencing panel options. We have two others if you would like to see."

Sometimes this department needs to use forklifts to help load or unload.

The associates have to go through a series of training upon hire before operations.

With each week being a new shipment, they are always having to move products around.

Stones can be a top seller in the garden center.

Customers can come and get a wide selection of them to help brighten up a garden area.

They can create fire pits, garden boxes, or carve paths.

Cohen Zipperer, an associate, has a customer on a call.

He comes out to his other coworkers to help answer some questions.

The gate has to stay closed so customers don't go through.

"Every day we have someone walk through, but they aren't allowed for safety measures," Cohen said.

Cohen asks Issac about a sale a customer was wondering about.

Lowes was having a buy three, get three free on potting soil.

Issac helps this elderly man fill his trailer up with mulch

In the area where it was located, customers aren't allowed to do it themselves.

Christopher Perez, an associate, helps Issac fill up the trailer.

The customer had bought 40 bags of mulch.

Filling up trailers or cars is a common task for the employees.

"This job can be a workout, with moving bags, bricks, and wood," Issac said.

Cohen is on the left in the counter-balance-reach truck, headed to store it away.

Isaac is on the right about to get in the forklift to move a few pallets.

They have to stay hydrated, especially in the Georgia heat.

"One of my shifts, I had about five waters," Issac said.

He's going to clean out the side gate of the carts.

Moving lost carts back to the front of the store, so the department has more room.

Lowes department of outside, lawn, and garden works hard to keep stock replenished.

They use third-party vendors to help assist with replenishment.
