[PHOTOSTORY 1: OUTDOORS] Ice Cream Sundaze by the Pool

 By: Taylor Dunn

111 South prepares for an Ice Cream Party by the pool for their current and upcoming residents. Leasing Agent Rebecca Wormer prepares by setting up the bar.

Outside has been set up to accommodate groups of people on either side of the pool. At this apartment complex, their pool includes a lazy river and a shady island spot.

Lounge chairs sit in the shallow end of the pool to keep residents and guest cool in the summer sun. The funky colors are meant to mimic the feel and atmosphere of a relaxed summer day.

New poolside chairs were set up along the gate. After being closed for the past few months, the 111 South pool has only been reopened for the past week, with new decorations to accompany its opening.

The ice cream bar included sprinkles and candy as toppings, as well as different flavored syrups. A Leasing agent for the office explained the importance of having choices in toppings.

Erika Harmon and her roommate head straight for the toppings. "It's always really nice to have an office who cares to have events like these."

The bar offered three different types of syrups, as well as providing spoons. In order to keep the bar clean, gloves and napkins were provided as well.

Harmon adds Oreo cookie crumbles to her cup of ice cream. She stated that in the weeks previous, she had been to the leasing offices Taco Night as well.

Jerrica Williams scoops gummi bears into her ice cream cup. As a student and a resident at 111, she commented how helpful it was to get a break and free ice cream.

Harmon tops off her sundae with a tower of whip cream. "I can't have my ice cream without a bunch of whip cream. That's what makes a good sundae."

After adding cookie crumbles, Williams goes back for more gummi bears. "Gummi bears are my favorite type of candy."

Williams adds strawberry syrup to her ice cream to finish it off. "I don't like whip cream, so I just need something more sweet to make it a sundae to me.

A cup of vanilla Bluebell Ice Cream with all the toppings from the bar. The leasing office handed out the little cups in two different flavors, chocolate and vanilla.

Outside, a couple enjoyed their ice cream poolside. They had taken the chairs out of the water in order to truly enjoy the heat of the sun.

At the barbecue bar, three roommates sat and enjoyed their ice cream. Brittani Powers snapped a photo of her cup and posted it to her Snapchat story.

The three friends split the vote on flavors, with two getting vanilla while one got chocolate. Along with the ice cream, the leasing office offered water as well.

Powers enjoys the last few bites of her ice cream. "This is the first event I've been to since I signed my lease last summer and I'm really glad this was my first one because I got free ice cream!"

Across the pool, another group of Georgia Southern students sat and enjoyed their ice cream. The four of them share an apartment in the building right behind the pool.

Across the lazy river, two resident hopefuls ate some ice cream and scoped out the scene. Brittany Kane (right) heard about the event from a interest list she signed up for during a nearby housing event.

Half in the sun and half in the shade, a group of friends discuss their summer plans. In the pool, they have space for water volleyball, as well as volleyball for loan during pool hours.
