[PHOTOSTORY 3: ADITL] Ship Ahoy!

 By: Vala Theodorsdottir

About to drive through the gate to go inside the ship. The area is gated for extra security.

Close up of the ship. It's fairly new it was made in 2015 and brought from Turkey to Iceland.

The name of the ship is Venus. It's from a town called Vopnafjordur, there they have a factory to work the fish.

Inside the windows up there, on the ships bridge, is where Bjorn Eiriksson spends most of his time. He is a captain of this ships and makes all the decisions.

Before Bjorn shows me inside he's showing me where the fish goes. The fish goes through the tube behind him and down these square like wholes.

On the way inside and finding out what a day in a life of a captain is like. He has worked in this industry since he was 17 years old, with a couple of pauses to try out different kinds of jobs but mainly this.

Takes of his shoes and puts on slides before he goes further in. The rule in the ship is to take shoes off before going inside to keep it sanitary and clean.

Walking to his seat where he spends most of his time. Up in the ship's bridge is the commanding station, it controls the ship movement through its navigational equipment.

Looks at all the big screens. There comes a lot of responsibilities sitting in this seat.

Looks at the map and decides where the next destination is. Tricky part is finding out where most of the fish is.

Better look at all the screens. This is like a whole new language all these signs and symbols.

Looks out the window and enjoys the view. The windows are 360° around the whole bridge, so there is a view no matter where you look.

Through his eyes. This is where he is looking.

Controls the buttons and directs the coworkers on deck. Theres even more computer screens and buttons.

Goes downstairs, sits in the living room reading the papers. This is the living room/dining room, in there is couches, TV, Kitchen, and dining table.

The dining table from a better angle. All the seats are screwed down to the floor since the sea is not a smooth sailing.

Checks what is in the fridge in the kitchen. This is where the chef spends all of his time to cook for everyone working on board.

Looks at emails and if there is any updates, in his room. The captain suite has a desk, coach, TV, bathroom, and a bed.

Here he tries to go as frequently as possible. They have access to a gym with plenty of equipment and a sauna.

Bjorn walking down the stairs and says goodbye. It was an interesting day and i got a glimpse of what a day of a captain on a ship is like.
