Dylon finds the flash he wants to use as well as the dubbing he wants to use for the body. This will make sure that the fly closely resembles the critter he is trying to create. |
Dylon pulls out the hook that he needs for this fly. He usually uses the same hook for all his small flies so this is a quick process. |
Dylon Williams is working on setting up his station, he gathers up all his tools and sets them on his vice. The vice holds the hook so he can work steadily. |
Dylon checks to see if he has all the proper gear that he will need for this fly and that his vice is firmly planted on his work table. |
Now it's time for the string, Dylon is making sure he finds a thread that will blend well with the other materials. The thread will be what he uses to put and keep all the other materials on the hook. |
Dylon puts the hook on the vice, it is now time to start his fly. |
Dylon is webbing the first few loops onto the hook. This creates a nice base layer for all the materials to hold on to moving forward. |
Dylon reaches for his foam and begins to draw out the shapes for the antennas for his fly. Foam is malleable and will also blend well with the other materials. |
It is time to cut the foam so that it is a perfect size, Dylon does this by following the lines he drew exactly. |
Dylon decides it is time for his dubbing to go on so he pulls from the stack of materials he just made. |
Dylon is carefully threading over the dubbing to hold it into place and make sure it holds the shape he wants. |
After he finishes, he observes the fly to ensure that he won't need to change or add anything else to it. This will make his product more desirable and true to life. |
The last step for Dylon is to glue the edges of the thread down so they won't fray or unwind. |
Dylon is putting his tools away to clear his work area. He is about to take a photo for his Patreon page and wants a clean background. |
Dylon shows off his final product, he loves the way it turned out! |
