[PHOTOSTORY 2: MOTION] Namaste - First Yoga Class

Jakirah is walking into Zen’Ergy - Yoga and Holistics for her first yoga class. She is trying to find a new way to relieve stress.

Jakirah is signing a waiver before her yoga class begins. The waiver is to protect the establishment just in case Jakirah happens to get hurt during her yoga class.

Jakirah is making her way into the yoga studio. She was instructed to remove her shoes before entering into the studio.

Jakirah is placing her shoes and other belongings into one of the cubbies in the studio. Since this was her first yoga class, the instructor provided detailed instructions.

Jakirah is placing support block near her yoga mat. The specific yoga she is going to do is Hatha Yoga.

The yoga instructor is guiding her students through breathing practice before getting started. Brianna Allen is a Holistic Healer and Consultant and she is also the founder of Zen’Ergy Holistics.

The instructor Brianna is guiding the class in a sun salutations pose. During this pose the class was asked to set intentions for what they wanted from today’s yoga class.

Jakirah achieves her first ever child’s pose. The child's pose helps to stretch your back and muscles around your hips.

Jakirah and the rest of the class are going into a high lunge to get warmed up. This variation of high lunge, sometimes called Crescent Pose, is a great preparation for the full version of Warrior I Pose.

The class is now in Warrior I Pose. The Warrior Pose is a group of related lunging standing asanas in modern yoga as exercise commemorating the exploits of a mythical warrior, Virabhadra.

The class is now performing a triangle pose. These poses are grounding and help improve balance as well as strengthen Muladhara, the root Chakra.

Brianna leads the class into a half moon pose. The half moon pose invites you to tap into both the calm, balancing energy of the moon and the fiery force of the sun.

The class is doing an extended side angle or Utthita Parvakonasana. The practice of utthita parsvakonasana increases the contraction of abdominal muscles and may improve digestion.

Jakirah is enjoying doing a happy baby pose. The Happy Baby Pose can stretch the inner thighs, hamstrings, and groin, and release the hips and back, resulting in more flexibility and mobility.

Brianna is leading the class into a closing out meditation. She reminds the class to think about their intentions that they set for themselves in the beginning of the class.
