This is the RAC at Georgia Southern University, it is a place for many to come and workout and do many other student activities. The RAC remains open to students who are taking in-person classes or pay the fees.
A dedicated student, Ty Smith, comes to the RAC six outs of his week to work out. He is 19 years old and is a transfer student from Liberty University in Virginia.
Ty Smith, 19, is working out his chest and shoulders today at the RAC. "Summer is the perfect time to utilize my time here at the gym while I am on a break from classes." Said Smith.
These are free weights which can used for a variety of different exercises. "I like using the free weights because I always set a goal to pick up a heavier pair the next time I work out." Said Smith
Listening to music at the gym helps Ty perform better when working out.
"Putting on a good song that pumps you up makes the work out 10x better." Said Smith
Between every set, Smith stops to drink some water to hydrate himself. Drinking water while at the gym keeps muscles hydrated and prevents cramping.
He grabs one of the fresh towels to wipe away his sweat and keep a strong grip while working out. The gym towel, his partner, keeps him comfortable and helps prevent sweaty hands during hard workouts.
With a determined expression, he looks around the gym, and then himself in the mirror, finally, ready to take on the workout with focus and dedication. "My roommate and I just started coming to the gym last week, him being with me is probably my biggest motivation." Smith said.
Ty wears his Nike shoes to the gym to workout in. "I don't really care about my looks at the gym, my main goal is to just gain weight and muscle." Said Smith.

Beginning another workout, Ty pushes himself through every set. On Chest/Shoulder day, Smith's workout consists of six different exercises.
Ty is starting to feel the burn is his set, but he just keeps going to finish his reps. "When I start to feel tired, I remember what I could look like in a couple months." Smith said.
Right now, Smiths roommate, Rylee is giving him some motivation to finish out his last set. "It always feels good to have someone who is going to have you back no matter what." said Smith
Going from exercise to exercise can be difficult and tiring. "When switching excursus you can not just wait around because your muscles will get cold." said Smith.
Ty is using the cable machine to work his shoulders out and make them stronger. "The cable machine is one of my favorites because there is so many exercises you can do with it."
As the workout gets to an end, Ty is tired and set his water and towel on the ground, but that won't stop him. "The gym starts to feel like home after while, so you kind of start acting like you are, haha."
Smith is on his last weighted workout of the day and is super sore. Smith made it through another work and plans on coming back to do more.
Lastly, Smith must do cardio so conclude his exercise. Cardio makes the heart rate speed up and is a great way to burn a lot of calories.
Ty gets onto the treadmill, his feet landing on the belt as he sets his speed, ready to start his cardio session with determination. "Cardio to me is like a steam blower, I get to burn all this left over energy that I have left." Smith said.
Now that Smith is done with his workout, he will walk for about five minutes to cool down. "After the gym, my roommate and I always make a healthy meal to feel good after working out." said Smith.
After the gym, Ty goes home to look forward to eating a yummy meal and getting some relaxation. The RAC is a great place for Georgia Southern students to use over the summer.
