[PHOTOSTORY 3: ADITL] Ray's Barbershop

 By Brenda Bernal:

The entrance of Ray’s Babershop in Downtown Statesboro. Ray’s Babershop opens at 7:30a.m.

Raimundo Torres, AKA Ray The Carribean Barber, is cutting his first client of the day. Ray is a master barber and is the owner of Ray’s Barbershop.

Carolina Garcia is moving towels into the towel warmer for the day. Carolina is Ray’s assistant at the barbershop.

Ray steps back to admire his work while his client is feeling himself after a fresh cut. Ray said, “I love seeing my clients happy, it means I’m doing something right!”

Ray is using scissor work to cut his young client’s hair. Since Ray is a master barber, he is a highly trained and licensed expert within the field of barbering which includes all the usual barber school aspects of hair cutting, coloring and styling using tools like shears, razors and clippers.

Carolina is sweeping hair while Ray is still cutting hair. She sweeps in between and after a client is getting their hair cut.

Carolina is washing Ray’s next client’s hair. Ray schedules his clients to come in while he is still cutting the previous client’s hair so he doesn’t waste time while clients are getting their hair washed.

Ray is using clippers with a 1.5 guard to achieve a burst fade. Throughout an average day, Ray’s does about seven different types of fades.

Ray is eating some chicken soup on his break. He takes his breaks around noon.

Ray continues to pass out fades to his clients. The specific client has been going to Ray since he was in 7th grade and he is now a sophomore in college.

Carolina is reading a magazine while waiting for more clients to come in. Ray is new to having an assistant since Carolina has only been working with Ray since April.

Ray’s wife came in to work the barbershop’s numbers. “She is the boss and owner of this place, I just work for her,” Ray joked.

Ray’s wife rings up a client while Ray gets his next client ready in the chair. An average cut at Ray’s babershop without tip is about $40.

Ray also sells the products that he uses in his shop. He has all the products from the Level 3 hair care and grooming line.

Ray leaned his client back to shape up his beard. This client was getting a fresh haircut for his upcoming cruise with his family.

After he cuts the clients hair, he takes his tape measure out to measure the length between the drawers. Ray opened his shop this April and is continuing to add more additions to his shop.

Ray is finally cutting his last head of the day. Ray has been cutting hair since 7:30 a.m. to 8p.m.

Ray is cleaning his station and organizing his tools and products. This is one of the very first things that Ray does when finishing his day.

Ray is turning off all the lights in his shop. He is surprisingly quick at closing down his shop.

After a 12 and a half hour day of cutting hair, Ray finally gets to close and lock up his barbershop. Ray cut a total of 30 heads today.
