[PHOTOSTORY 2: MOTION] Boxing

 By: Greyden Gay

The doorway leading into the boxing studio at the YMCA. There is a boxing class held in this room every Tuesday and Thursday.

A participant of the class is wrapping her hands before class begins. Wrapping your hands before boxing is very important for protection and stability.

Hannah Beggs, the instructor of the class, is leading the group in a warm-up before the class begins. She starts off the warmup by demonstrating how to do arm circles.

The instructor, Hannah, is continuing the class warm-up. The next warm-up the she demonstrated was high knees.

The class is beginning with its first series of punches. The first workout of the class was a 1-2-1 movement, which is a left jab to a right cross and back to a left jab.

Hannah is showing the class the next exercise that they are going to have to do. While yes, this is a boxing class, she likes to incorporate other movements as well, such as squats.

Instructor Hannah demonstrating what the next workout is going to be. This set consisted of the same 1-2-1 motion I mentioned earlier, but followed by a sit up.

Class participant and employee of the YMCA, Summer Rooker, smiling during her workout. "I love getting to come to these classes, they really push me to work harder," Summer said.

Participants doing their workout to the "Bring Sally Up" workout song. For this workout, you punch the bag continuously while squatting up and down depending on what the song says to do.

The instructor, Hannah, demonstrating how to do assisted pushups. She was very helpful and provided many alternative workout ideas.

Class participant and employee at the YMCA, Amber Todd, kneeing the bag. "Boxing is definitely my favorite class that we have here at the Y," Amber said.

A class participant giving it her all and working up a sweat. This workout set consisted of only punches.

Instructor Hannah explaining the workout to her student. "I have been working here for about 10 years now and I can easily say that my favorite thing that I do around here is teaching this class and having the opportunity to help better others and also myself," Hannah said.

Participants doing crunches after their punches. The two men in the back have decided to take a quick break before getting back into it!

Everyone getting back up on their feet, beginning their next workout. This set consisted of a 2-3-2 motion which means a cross into a hook and back to a cross.

Participants holding a squat while also punching. For this set, they were to hold this position for the entirety of the song.

Hannah instructing the class on their final workout. She likes to call it the "Blue Mile Burnout" and it includes 50 of each punch type.

Hannah cheering on her students while they are laughing and enjoying their workout. Although this class is very mentally and physically challenging, everyone still has a wonderful time.
