[PHOTOSTORY 2: MOTION] A Friendly Competition In The Sand

 By: Mia Kologranic

Before the game starts, Maddie Kuciapinski sets her Apple Watch to workout mode. “Workouts don’t count if your watch doesn’t track it,” she said sarcastically.

The group of friends start their exciting game, which is being played on the volleyball courts at The Hudson. All members of the friend group are current graduate assistants in the exercise science program at Georgia Southern University.

Claire Harding reaches out to hit the ball over the net as her teammates Cory Cribb (back) and Marius Johnson (front) wait to assist her. Claire uses her height as an advantage throughout the game.

Cassidy Mcintire goes in for the big hit hoping to score some points. Her teammates Tony Spencer (back) and Maddie Kuciapinski (front) lock eyes with the ball in case she needs assistance.

Cassidy Mcintire’s knee starts to bleed after diving for the previous ball. The team is filled with worry as they are unsure if she can ever play again.

Tony Spencer (left) and Maddie Kuciapinski (right) start to strategize and think of a game plan in case Cassidy doesn’t return. What once was a three-man team might shrink to only two.

Nonetheless, Cassidy Mcintire returns to the game and sets the ball for the next set. She brushes off her gnarly injury and her semi-professional career can continue.

Cory Cribb (back) and Claire Harding (front) lock in their focus as they watch the opposing team's movements. Their team has been down by multiple points since the start of the game.

Tony Spencer positions himself to bump the ball back over the net. Tony proved himself to be the team’s M.V.P with his quality skills.

Claire Harding hits the ground in an attempt to stop the opposing team from scoring. The morals of Claire and her teammates are low at this point.

Claire Harding takes a water break to recover from her big fall. “We (her team) are going to make a comeback after this,” she said.

Claire Harding (back) prepares for Maddie Kuciapinski’s (front) hit but Maddie does not get the ball back over the net. The volleyball net was a big obstacle for many players during this game.

The ball finally makes it over the net as Maddie Kuciapinski watches to see where it will go. It was a beautiful day for outdoor volleyball with friends.

Claire, Marius, and Cory (L-R) position themselves in order to hopefully score some points. The communication between this team was very good throughout the game.

  1. Maddie Kuciapinski bumps the ball hard over the net as she plays the front position. She scores a point for her team.

Marius Johnson is frustrated as his team continues to give up points. The two teams decide that the winner would be determined by the first team to score 15 points. The score was 12-4 at this point.

On the contrary, Tony (back) and Cassidy (front) are laughing and having a fun time. Their team was up and they were ready to finish this game out and win.
