[PHOTOSTORY 2: MOTION] Off Season Grind

 By: Chandler Canady

The Georgia Southern RAC basketball courts is where students and faculty go to play pick up
games or enhance their basketball skills. The courts are often less crowed during the Summer.

Alex Banta, a 21 year old student at Georgia Southern dribbles a basketball. "I come go to the
RAC courts any time I want to get some training in."

Alex crouches lower to engage different muscles during a drill. "I try to be consistent when I come to the
gym because I know it will produce results."

The score board displays who is winning and who is losing. The board tends to remain off when
games are not being played.

Alex takes a mid-range shot. A midrange shot is one that is a valuable asset in basketball.

Alex's shot soars on its way to the basket. The NBA has shifted from most offense being scored "in the paint" to "jumpers and three pointers".

Alex gets ready to go in for a layup. The more consistent he gets at this skill, the more points he will be
able to score.

Alex prepares for a layup. This time he runs in his lay up with his right hand.

Alex waits for his rebound as he begins to shoot free throws. "Free throws are one of the most important
shots in basketball," says Alex.

The objective of basketball is to get the ball into the goal. No matter how long a play lasts, the ball
has to get into the basket for the point to count.

Alex goes in for a layup. "I like the layup, but I rather dunk."

Alex attempts what he calls a "jelly".  A "jelly" in simple terms is a fancy layup.

Alex physically frustrated as he practices the jelly. "Its hard to do, but so cool when I pull it off."

Alex hangs after slamming down a dunk. The rims at the RAC are set to NBA level height.

Alex stoked after he slams the dunk. "I really have the bunnies", he exclaims.

Alex sports a pair of Nike Huaraches. "They give me support and good style."

Alex practices sprint drills. "The faster I can be on the court the better."

Alex connects on a jump shot. Alex feels more comfortable shooting this from the left side of the court.

Alex shoots a jump shot from the right side of the court. Alex tends to go around the perimeter of the court while he practices.
The stands are empty but they won't be come the fall. Alex hopes that this practice will pay off come game time.
